beccachris: that's exactly what I am wondering too. Did AG just discover a whole box of retired items in their warehouse and they sent all of them to one person?

To AGTeacher: what are rejections from AG factory? Wouldn't that be seconds (like the ones people get from MCM sale)? I have been to the last MCM sale, and I didn't see any Josefina or Kirsten's retired outfits.

Still don't like outfits without AG tags...

Tags on doll clothing purchased at the MCM sale are just snipped but not cut off completely. It's to prevent the item from being returned to American Girl for a refund. If the tag isn't snipped, then there's probably a tiny "x" on the label.

Personally, I'm going to stay away from their things if it's the same seller I was warned about. I'm not going to email them about their things either. I figure if an ebay item is too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

I felt the same way in the beginning, but I looked at their feedbacks, 100% positive. So maybe the tag-less outfits are authentic afterall?

I bought a lot of her outfits and LOVED it!
Since DD adopted my old Lissie, she wants now to have her outfits, but I am not about to purchase duplicates at full price!
So, I got a lot that included Lissie's school outfit with AG tags intact, her traveling outfit with the cap and tags cut, Elizabeth's meet outfit with full tags (yes, this was 2 weeks ago!) and Addy's hoop with tags.
Whole thing: less than $40 S+H included!
The items look perfect (pesky Ria found a snag! LOL!) and I decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth... they definitely do not look counterfeits to me.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think they are ones that were rejected BEFORE they go to the stores. MCM ones are store's rejects. Those tags are just snipped to prevent returns but FACTORY rejects would probably have the tags totally removed to try and prevent just this exact thing and to keep them from being labeled American Girl outfits.

This is quite normal practice in China and this is my best guess on where they are coming from. Oftentimes factory employees or people with connections to employees pinch reject merchendise to make extra money. One of the only perks of working in a Chinese sweatshop.

My BEST guess is that they are mostly auth outfits didn't meet quality standards at the AG factory and were clipped and tossed.

Time will tell. I am really considering bidding on the today lot. Nobody outbid me and I will let you know how they look!

But the AG factory in China would not currently be producing retired outfits for an employee to take the "rejects".

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Stuff lays around factories for a while. It's possible they very well might be able to get retired outfits. I mean an item is retired, what do you do with the ones that are manufactured but not yet shipped to the US? Most places I've worked toss it into a store room until they run out of space.

It would cost AG a small fortune in importation costs to send the outifts to MCM, so they would then get disposed of locally (china) The less than legit importers mark items as "gift" or severly undervalue them to keep importation costs almost nil.

I'm just speculating like everyone else, but the other non-ag items she sells ARE factory or store rejects. (they have marked tags)

So these are worse than the seconds we buy at MCM sale. They never even made it to AG warehouse.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That would be my best guess. Some of them may be first quality that would have just been disposed of after the item was retired and thus AG had no more need for them in the US. (which would also explain why some items have full tags)

I'd be willing to risk it myself, but I don't collect, I just play with my dolls.

I've bought a few of her items and like hanna an also thrilled with what I got! A few items do have tags, most have the tags snipped very close to the garment, put you can see they are AG.
I buy the outfits to dress the dolls with the stories I read to DD. If I was collecting them for future value, I would only buy direct from AG, and store it away in my attic for 20 years. Personally, I bwelieve the dolls should be played with, and snipped tag or not, the dresses are beautiful and we love them!
As for buying in China, I'm sure she is. She also sells Tommy Bahama in bulk, and it's made in china too. I wish I could get my hands on her dealer!
